Details of our regular courses are below. We also offer bespoke training - contact us with your request.
Introduction to Practical Bioinformatics and RNA-Seq AnalysisIntroduction to Practical Bioinformatics and RNA-Seq Analysis
This intensive three-day course aims to introduce scientists to the command-line interface and the R programming environment. We start from the basics without assuming any prior knowledge.
Beginning with an introduction to the Linux command-line, we progress to develop shell scripting and text processing skills. The course also includes a brief introduction to the R statistical programming environment, introducing the Tidyverse for data handling.
The final day of the course covers important aspects of Bioinformatics and the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data. We apply the skills developed in the first part of the course to a real-world RNA-Seq data set, incorporating the the popular DESeq2 package for differential gene expression analysis.
This course is supported by a BBSRC Strategic Training Award for Research Skills. It is therefore offered free of charge to Newcastle University and BBSRC-funded researchers. A course fee of £100 is payable for all other attendees.

Interpreting RNA-Seq ResultsInterpreting RNA-Seq Results
This one-day course looks at several ways of adding functional context to lists of genes.
We begin by introducing methods for clustering and visualizing data, including dendrograms, heatmaps and venn diagrams. We then consider how to make use of functional annotation that has been added to the gene databases of many organisms to examine gene lists for classes of annotation that are statistically over-represented.
This course is supported by a BBSRC Strategic Training Award for Research Skills. It is therefore offered free of charge to Newcastle University and BBSRC-funded researchers. A course fee of £40 is payable for all other attendees.
To register your interest, please fill in the form on the workshop page. Note that you should have completed our course 'Introduction to Practical Bioinformatics and RNA-Seq Analysis' before attending this course.
Information on CancellationsInformation on Cancellations
