based in a purpose-built study

centre in the heart of the University

campus and just minutes from the

city centre. The centre includes

teachin and learnin facilities

for up to 1,000 international

students, as well as dedicated

accommodation.

Entrance

requirements

If you’re not a native speaker of

En lish, or if you are a Tier 4 visa

application student, you will need

to show that you have adequate

knowled e of written and spoken

En lish before you be in your

studies.

For direct entry to a Newcastle

University course, you will typically

need an overall IELTS score of 6.5

(or equivalent), but some courses

may ask for a hi her level of En lish

lan ua e. You can check the lan ua e requirements for each course online at www.ncl.ac.uk/ post raduate/courses

Tier 4 (General) visa application

students also need to demonstrate

proficiency at level B2 of the

Common European Framework

of Reference for Lan ua es.

This is equivalent to at least IELTS

5.5 in each of the four components:

• readin

• writin

• speakin

• listenin

University also accepts a ran e

includin Cambrid e, Pearson’s

and those from the International

Baccalaureate or anisation. Check for equivalencies at www.ncl.ac.uk/international/ courses/lan ua e Tests are normally considered

valid for two years from the date

the test was taken to the start date

of your course.

On-campus

language support

If you are not a native En lish speaker

we ask you to take a short En lish

lan ua e assessment when you first

arrive. This helps us to identify what

extra En lish lan ua e support you

may need when you are here.

Once you have started your course,

there are also a number of free

services to help you continue to build

your lan ua e skills while you study.

These include:
