Landscape Survey on Mallorca
Prof. Sam Turner, co-director of the Centre for Landscape, is leading a team of researchers from Newcastle University on a landscape survey project studying the region around the Roman city of Pollentia, Alcúdia, on Mallorca, Spain. This is a collaboration with researchers from the University of Barcelona, who have been conducting excavations at the ancient city of Pollentia for many years, under the direction of Profs Miguel Angel Cau Ontiveros and Cati Mas Florit. In late July and August of 2023 the team are carrying out digital landscape survey and fieldwalking with systematic ceramic collection in the fields surrounding Alcúdia, to chart transformations in the landscape history of the island.
