Aims
To provide incoming exchange chemistry students with practical research experience and training in a UK university laboratory.
Outline Of Syllabus
The exact nature of the project is research group dependent, but will encompass the students applying their existing theoretical skills to solving real-life chemical challenges. The student is hosted in the Principal Investigator’s laboratory and becomes part of the research team.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Most of the module involves practical work within the research laboratories but also includes time for experimental design and some background work.
Private study includes time for background reading, project planning and writing and preparing reports.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Assessment of the practical work performed during the project will be carried out by the project supervisor. The supervisor will provide the appropriate guidance throughout the project, offering advice and constructive criticism. The supervisor will also assess a research report that the student will write by the end of the module. This final report will provide an introduction to the research topic, a results and discussion section, followed by their experimental write-up, conclusions and references.
