Aims

1.To introduce the concept of cognitive ageing with particular reference to language changes resulting from       normal and abnormal ageing
2.To describe the cognitive-linguistic changes that occur in healthy older adults and individuals with various types of dementia
3.To discuss current explanatory accounts of cognitive ageing in healthy older adults and dementia
4.To outline approaches to the clinical management and rehabilitation of cognitive deficits in dementia

Outline Of Syllabus

•Week 1: Overview of linguistic and non-linguistic cognitive changes in normal and abnormal ageing
•Week 2: Student preparation for presentations – No contact
•Week 3: Lexical processing in older adults and adults with dementia
•Week 4: Sentence and discourse processing in older adults and adults with dementia
•Week 5: Management approaches and rehabilitation in dementia
•Week 6: Poster preparation – No contact
•Week 7: Poster presentations (assessment)
