Complimentary Social and Cultural Programme

Explore the North East's treasured sights with the Study Abroad team

Make the most of your time in Newcastle

Newcastle University invite all fee-paying Study Abroad students to take part in a complimentary social and cultural programme. This programme will help you make the most of your semester or year in England.

Local experts and guides will lead us on a tour of North East England's treasured sites, during a series of day trips and evening events.

This social programme enables you to expand your cultural horizons, forge important friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime. All of these events are free to attend. We encourage you to sign up to as many events as you wish.

Something for everyone

The social programme has seen previous Study Abroad students:

  • ride broomsticks at Alnwick Castle, where Harry Potter was filmed
  • cheer on the Newcastle Falcons at a rugby match
  • devour a traditional fish and chip lunch at the British seaside
  • play beach games at King Edward’s Bay
  • attend a festive performance at the famous Theatre Royal Newcastle
  • make bird's nest boxes for local schools during a ‘micro-volunteering’ session
  • spend the day exploring the medieval city of York
  • enjoy a special tour of St. James’ Park, home of Newcastle United Football Club
St James

I think the social and cultural programme offered is great! It's a great combination of everything fun and unique around the Newcastle area.

All Study Abroad students are invited onto a free Social and Cultural programme. The events were really fun and allowed me to meet other students from all over the world.
