Project summary

Dr Skyrme was awarded her PhD in 2014. She was funded by the ESRC and TREAT-NMD.

She interviewed boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy for their views on how they thought they might make a decision to take part in medical research.

As part of the research she examined:

• the boys’ sociocultural setting
• how they cope with a degenerative condition
• the role their parents play

Dr Skyrme disseminated her findings at conferences, workshops and in journals.
