PEALS Research Fellow Dr Ken Taylor has been successful in an application for support from the HASS Faculty Bid Preparation Fund. The award of £4,940 will enable Dr Marianne Wilde to work with Ken and PEALS Executive Director Professor Simon Woods on the development of a large funding bid for submission to the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. With a working title of ‘Sci-Art with public engagement as a model for developing a culture of Responsible Innovation among early career bioscientists’ the bid will seek funding for a 30-month, interdisciplinary project. The proposed research project will aim to understand barriers to the uptake of Responsible Innovation considerations among early career researchers and explore how the use of creative arts practice may encourage an improved culture of integrity in scientific research and Responsible Innovation. Outputs from the project are planned to include practical advice for doctoral training and early career development for dissemination, e.g. via the Newcastle University Skills Academy.
