Mitochondria and Us

Director Simon Woods took part in the Royal Society of Edinburgh's 'Mitochondria and Us' a Regional Champions event on Thursday September 17th 2020 as part of the global Mitochondrial Diseases Awareness week.

As part of the global Mitochondrial Diseases Awareness week Simon Woods took part in the Royal Society of Edinburgh's  'Mitochondria and Us' a Regional Champions event in collaboration with The University of Glasgow and the Lily Foundation. This two-hour programme of talk and discussion brough together some of the leading researchers into mitochondrial disease together with patient representatives and social scientists. Professor Kostas Tokalidis chaired the science talks and Professor Simon Woods chaired the talks on the wider societal issues. Simon's talk gave an overview of the social and ethical issues associated with mitochondrial donation. The event attracted 350 listeners tuning in from places as far flung as Brazil, Morocco, Hong Kong and the US!
