Stories from the field

Bioethics is thought by many to have taken an ‘empirical turn’ in recent years, paying more attention to the empirical grounding for the more traditionally normative claims of bioethics.

PEALS Executive Director Jackie Leach Scully is well known for her work in feminist empirical bioethics and disability bioethics, and was invited to participate in a two-day training course on empirical bioethics organised by the Centre for Medical Ethics at Bristol Medical School on 9-10 May 2018. In a session entitled “Stories from the field”, she explored how she was drawn into this approach to bioethical reflection, and in particular the particular contribution of feminist theory and methodology to empirical bioethics.
