Electronic healthcare records (EHRs) are rapidly becoming one of the most powerful tools in contemporary research, and CRIS provides a secure, ethical platform for accessing de-identified patient data. Through CRIS, researchers can draw on structured clinical information such as demographics and diagnoses, as well as apply Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to extract insights from unstructured clinical notes. The potential applications are vast, and in this session, we will hear a snapshot of how CRIS has been used across four different projects. We will explore both the advantages of using EHR data for research and the challenges that arise when records designed for clinical care are transformed for analytical use.
