Facilities

Our Infectious Diseases Facility consists of two fully self-contained CL3 laboratory suites.

The construction of the facility enables the laboratories to be completely sealable for fumigation, operate at negative air pressure and ensure all extract air is HEPA filtered. The integrity of the facility is validated annually, magnahelic gauges are calibrated, air pressures and air handling systems are validated to ensure negative pressure is maintained.

Microbiological safety cabinets (MSCs) provide containment for all work. The facility has class I and class II MSCs available that undergo 6 monthly statutory servicing and validation.

Each laboratory suite has its own autoclave for the inactivation of waste prior to disposal. Autoclaves undergo regular statutory testing and validation.

There is a schedule of regular testing of safety critical equipment carried out by the manager.

The laboratories are also equipped with:

  • Centrifuges and microfuges
  • COincubators for cell culture
  • Incubators
  • Heated blocks, vortex mixers, pipettes, fridges and freezers

The facility is restricted access to personnel that meet the pre-requisites and have undergone stringent CL3 safety training and competency assessment.
