Our 185-seat Law Library is situated within the Law School building. It contains over 35,000 volumes of material, including 400 different law report and journal series. 1,640 titles are available on-line under special licensing arrangements. Whether you're looking for law reports, statutes, texts, reference works or journals it can all be found either in the Library or from a computer.
In addition, Newcastle University can boast one of the largest and well-run libraries in the UK. The Robinson Library, Walton Library, and Law Library, comprising the University Library, are proud holders of the coveted Charter Mark for the fifth time.
We have a large range of student textbooks for loan, and material available for reference use, such as law reports, statutes, journals and encyclopaedic works. As with any library, we have some restrictions on the type and number of items that you can borrow.
We have a Student Texts Collection of books, journals and photocopies of articles that are in particularly heavy demand. Most of these items can only be borrowed for a few hours at a time, and some must only be used in the Law Library. We also have long loan books for up to one month's loan.
The Law Library holds much of the material required for course work, but you may find that you also need to use the main Robinson Library which is only a minute's walk away.
If you want to work on things at home, we do provide photocopying facilities (payment is made by debiting funds held on your University smartcard).
In addition to the ample seating space there are two discussion rooms if you want to work as a group. There is also an IT cluster and wi-fi is available throughout the Law Library for use with laptops.
