Prior to joining Newcastle Law School in 2008 I studied law at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Aberdeen.
My teaching and research focus on various aspects of environmental law in particular relating to rights and justice as well as enforcement and theoretical issues (see SSRN Author Page).

My research focuses on various aspects of environmental law (UK, international and European environmental law). Current work focuses on human rights and the environment, the enforcement of environmental law, the theoretical bases of environmental law as well as 'fracking'.

My current work includes research into the theoretical foundations of environmental law as well as work on rights and the environment. In addition, I am working on a project examining the enforcement of environmental law through so-called enforcement undertakings.
I am currently supervising research students researching management of common land and ecosystem services. I am interested in supervising research students in various aspects of environmental law. In particular the areas of environmental rights, environmental justice, climate change, and international environmental law.
