International Students

International Students

We are dedicated to giving our international students the best possible learning experience. With more than 30 nationalities represented at the Law School, we've got the experience to back up our claims.

The University's international student pages provide extensive information about undergraduate fees, language requirements, accommodation and the support we offer. The University offers some undergraduate scholarships for international students.

English Language Requirements

Law is a teaching subject which requires an excellent command of language.

Newcastle Law School requires that international applicants achieve an IELTS score of 7.0.

International LLB Scholarships

We are committed to awarding outstanding achievement and attracting students of the highest calibre from around the world so we offer an International LLB Scholarship.

This is a competitive scholarship based on academic merit, achievement and potential; evidence of which will be derived from the candidate’s application information.

Financial circumstances of the candidates are not taken into account.

International Student Tutor

You bring vibrancy and a wealth of experience to our Law School community and we've developed services specific to international students to match.

Central to these services is the International Student Tutor, a member of staff dedicated to supporting international undergraduates.

Intensive Guidance & Development Programme

The programme provides for additional academic sessions held once every week during the academic calendar.

It runs throughout the first year of your time at Newcastle Law School and is intended to facilitate your academic, social and cultural transition into this new learning environment.

Since the inception of this Programme, pass rates for our international students have improved dramatically.

One-to-one Student Mentoring

We have pioneered the idea of relying upon our existing students to provide additional support for our international students.

Under the Student Mentoring Scheme all international students will receive support from a trained student mentor, providing a friendly and informal point of contact to help you settle into life in Newcastle.

The mentoring scheme was initiated as a pilot project in September 2008 and the feedback received by both mentors and mentees have been so positive that this programme will become a tier of the International Student Intensive Guidance and Development Programme.

In 2008, the Law School's Internal Subject Review commended the peer mentoring scheme as exemplary practice.

Canadian students

We welcome applications from Canadian candidates who wish to read for a three year LLB degree at Newcastle University.

Our comprehensive academic programme is open to both high school and post-graduate applicants. We are continually expanding our curriculum to provide an attractive alternative to existing Canadian qualifying law degrees.

Our carefully-structured programme equips students with skills and knowledge that not only help them to secure articling positions in Canada but also enter legal professions worldwide

Hong Kong Students

Newcastle Law School offers a rewarding and stimulating programme to Hong Kong students who intend to qualify with an LL.B. degree.

We strive to foster critical thinking and flexible problem solving skills in our students

Our degree not only opens doors to diverse legal careers but also provides a solid foundation for postgraduate studies and is highly valued by employers in other professions.

Newcastle University has been a favourite destination for Hong Kong students for many years and continues to offer a higher education experience recognised internationally for excellence.

Meet us in Hong Kong

Our members of staff regularly travel to Hong Kong to meet with prospective students. We attend the British Council Exhibitions and Events, the ESF higher education fair and organise individual visits to Hong Kong Schools.

You can also meet us, as well as representatives of the Newcastle University International Office, at the events arranged by our agents.
