Student Support

Student support networks are vital to help you make the transistion from school to university and to make sure that you et the most out of your university experience. Some students want to raise their questions with lecturers. Others would feel more comfortable talking to a fellow student. At Newcastle Law School, we put the networks in place to let you do both.

From your first day at Newcastle Law School you will be assigned a member of academic staff as personal tutor. Personal tutors have scheduled meetings with their tutees several times in the academic year to allow the students to ask the questions on their minds and receive the advice they need. Moreover, all tutors maintain weekly office hours when students can drop in if there is an issue that the need immediate advice upon.

The bond between the tutor and tutee is very important, as the tutor will be responsible for writing your reference. The closeness of this relationship ensures that your reference will be prepared by someone who knows you personally.

The Eldon Society also arranges helpful second and third year students to act as mentors to all of the new intake of students. This ensures that every student has an informal point of contact with someone who knows how the Law School works.

In addition the Student Wellbeing Service offers free and confidential support on financial and disability issues as well as counselling.
