PEALS has always been actively involved in a number of collaborations with clinical partners through our links with the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle. Collaborations have taken place and are ongoing with the Institute of Human Genetics, Reproductive Sciences, and the Institute of Ageing and Health. We have also worked with colleagues in our Science and Engineering Faculty, including the Centre for Rural Economy and the Institute of Nanotechnology. We were also very active in the establishment of the North of England Stem Cell Institute, a formal collaboration between Newcastle University and Durham University.
An important influence in our work was our participation in the Life Knowledge Park, one of the regional Genetics Knowledge Park funded by the Department of Health and the Department of Trade and Industry between 2002 and 2007.
We have very strong links with local NHS departments and Trusts who have participated in both research projects and PhD supervisions via ESRC Collaborative studentships. Some of the departments we have worked with and continue to do so include:
the Newcastle Fertility Centre
Haematology
the Northern Genetics Service
the Endocrinology Service
the Craniofacial Department/Cleft Lip and Palate Team
several Primary Care Trusts in the region.
There are several third sector organisations who have been partners with us on a range of projects; these include:
the Angelou Centre, and the United Black Youth Association based there
