From 26-28 July, Jackie Leach Scully chaired the 8th congress of the International Network of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics (FAB), held in Singapore.
FAB is a global network of academics and practitioners who apply feminist theory and methodology to bioethical issues, and the congress brought together over 80 participants from more than 20 countries, with presentations covering a rich variety of topics. Jackie presented some of her own recent work done in collaboration with Rachel Woodward on the ethics of DNA identification of military remains.
The conference also held a reception for the official launch of Feminist Bioethics: At the Center, On the Margins, co-edited by Jackie together with Laurel Baldwin-Ragaven and Petya Fitzpatrick, and published by Johns Hopkins University Press.
As Co-coordinator of FAB, Jackie co-chaired the opening morning of the 10th World Congress of Bio-ethics, which followed on from the FAB meeting. Organised jointly with the International Association of Bioethics, the congress was formally opened by S.R. Nathan , the President of Singapore, and the session’s speakers included Dame Silvia Cartwright, former Governor General of New Zealand.
