Visit to Centre for Social Research with Deaf People

On 3 May 2017 PEALS Executive Director Jackie Leach Scully paid a visit to the Centre for Social Research with Deaf People (SORD) in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Manchester.

Jackie gave a talk entitled 'Disability bioethics and the bioethics of disability: alternative perspectives' to members of the Centre and of the School. She also had conversations with SORD researchers about their work and explored possible overlaps with PEALS’ interests, including SORD’s project on deaf people experiencing dementia, embodied personhood of deaf people, and issues that have arisen in devising signed interpretation for key concepts within healthcare and life science research.
