24 March 2024

As of March 2024, the GP registrations numbers for Newcastle University hit 5000, and they’re still climbing.

With last year’s total registrations surpassing 6300, we’re a little behind this year, so if you haven’t registered with already and need to do so, now is as good a time as any.

Registering with a GP is a vital step in maintaining good health and wellbeing. This primary care relationship serves as a cornerstone for a person’s healthcare journey, offering numerous benefits that go beyond just treating illnesses.

Firstly, having a registered GP practice ensures continuity of care. This means that your medical history, including previous illnesses, treatments, and medications, are all recorded in one place. This comprehensive overview allows the GP to make more informed decisions about your health, leading to better treatment outcomes.

Secondly, a GP acts as a guide and coordinator for your health needs. They can provide preventive care such as vaccinations, screenings, and advice on healthy lifestyle choices. By having regular check-ups with your GP, potential health issues can be detected early, preventing them from becoming more serious problems.

Moreover, in times of illness or medical emergencies, a registered GP provides a familiar and trusted point of contact. They know your medical history, which can be crucial in making quick and accurate diagnoses, especially in urgent situations.

Lastly, registering with a GP contributes to the efficiency of the healthcare system. By having a designated primary care provider, unnecessary visits to emergency rooms or specialists can be reduced, easing the burden on these services.

Don’t leave it too late.
