The facility is the first of its type in Europe in large-scale wastewater treatment research using bacteria, which speeds up the translation and uptake of new innovations by the water sector.

BE:WISe is available to academia and industry to make innovations in wastewater treatment a reality for the water sector.

Applicants who are in the process of applying for research grants can also request a letter of support to aid their grant applications.

Equipment available at the facility:

  1. Activated sludge
  2. Trickling filter
  3. Low temperature anaerobic reactor
  4. Microbial electrochemical fuel cell
  5. Wetlands/lagoons
