CESI Research Conference 2019 - Collaboration Across CESI: Crossing boundaries

This 1-day event will provide an inclusive platform for all CESI academics and researchers to share their findings through oral and poster presentations.

Date/Time: Tuesday, 23rd July 2019, 09:00-17:00

Venue: Newcastle University Medical School, NE2 4HH

This year’s conference has an overarching theme of Collaboration Across CESI, crossing boundaries between institutions and disciplines.  The conference will bring together researchers and academics funded through our Flexible Research Fund in addition to the CESI academic consortium, providing the opportunity for dissemination and collaboration through presentations, expert talks and poster sessions to inspire future research.

Call for Abstracts - now closed!

We invited abstracts of 250-500 words for oral and poster presentations on:

  • existing collaborations between disciplines or universities
  • multi-vector energy systems demonstrators
  • collaboration between CESI, government and non-governmental organisations
  • the need for new interdisciplinary collaborations based on existing research

Session 1: Collaboration - CESI and beyond

  • Chair: Professor Phil Taylor, CESI Director and Head of School of Engineering Newcastle University
  • Keynote: Professor Keith Bell, University of Strathclyde, Member of the Committee on Climate Change and Co-Director of the UK Energy Research Centre
  • Talk title: What is the perspective of the Committee on Climate Change on ESI?

Session 2: Collaboration on Energy Systems Demonstrators

  • Chair: Dr Sara Walker, CESI Deputy Director and Director of Expertise for Infrastructure Research, School of Engineering, Newcastle University
  • Keynote: Professor Stephen McArthur, University of Strathclyde, Director of the Energy Revolution Research Consortium (EnergyREV)
  • Talk title: EnergyREV and its support of the Prospering from the Energy Revolution (PFER) Programme

Session 3: Collaboration - CESI, Government, regulators and industry

  • Chair: Professor Gordon MacKerron, CESI Associate Director and Interim Director of SPRU, University of Sussex Business School
  • Keynote: Emma Pinchbeck, RenewableUK, Deputy Chief Executive
  • Talk title: Wind as a multi-vector energy source

Session 4: Collaboration opportunities across energy consortia

  • Chair: Professor Phil Taylor, CESI Director and Head of School of Engineering, Newcastle University
  • Discussion session, with invited representatives from UK energy research consortia

Registration

The conference is open to CESI researchers and academics including those funded through our Flexible Research Fund, and invited representatives of other organisations.  Registration is free but essential to attend this event.  Registration will close on Thursday 18th July.
