CESI Partner Blog: Tackling energy demand reduction in India

CESI Co-Investigator, Dr David Jenkins led a team of researchers from Heriot-Watt University in holding a workshop in Delhi for the £1.5m Community-scale Energy Demand Reduction in India (CEDRI) project.

Jointly supported by EPSRC and Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST), CEDRI explores how electrical demand in India can be reduced, reflecting the constraints of the network and the needs of the householder.

Over 25 delegates from the energy industry, policymakers and academia attended the event to discuss questions including:

  • What are the main challenges in structuring energy demand flexibility strategies for residential buildings in India?
  • Which issues currently affecting India’s local electricity networks?
  • What changes are expected in the next couple of decades and how do we address these?

Further details of the discussions and conclusions reached at the workshop can be found in the CEDRI Blog post.
