A landscape survey of the Anglo-Scottish border in Cumbria

The McCord Centre has been awarded two small grants by the Newcastle Institute for Social Renewal and by the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society. The grant funding will go towards a landscape survey of part of north Cumbria which lies between Hadrian's Wall and the border with Scotland. The project aims to identify and record archaeological landscape features in a forgotten and misremembered past in the Western March of England. The survey work will be carried out by Dr Caron Newman and Dr Richard Newman with the assistance of undergraduate students. The aim is also to build links with landowners and other local people through community participation in the project.
