How to Apply

Discover how to apply for our short-term global opportunities, along with timelines of what to expect and when.

The application process and timelines

Step one: Do your research

The information provided on this website details the global opportunities available for Summer 2025. Make sure you have thoroughly reviewed the schedule, location and duration of the programme to ensure you have chosen the right opportunity for you.

The closing date for applications can vary between partners. It’s important to make a note of these deadlines so you don’t miss out.

Step two: Consider how you’ll fund your trip

The GO Global Scholarship and Sustainable Travel Grant are available for eligible students to help fund the cost of their global experience. You must meet the specific criteria outlined in order to be considered for the grant.

We encourage you to apply as soon as possible, even if you haven’t made a final decision about which opportunity you would like to pursue. The funding will be paid to you once your place on a programme has been confirmed.

Even if you aren’t eligible for a scholarship there are lots of affordable options to choose from. You can also look at external funding options.

Step three: Find out more

We appreciate its a big decision to go abroad and that you may have some questions. We're here to help you find out more about the process:

subscribe to our Global Opportunities newsletter and discover all the latest news, blogs and top tips for going abroad

Step four: Get insights from students who’ve done it all before

Drop in to one of our student-led advice sessions and find out what it’s really like to study, live and work abroad. There is no need to book in advance, just come along and get your questions answered!

Step five: You're ready to apply

If you have done your research and feel ready to apply, you'll need to follow the below steps:

1. In order to secure your place on a particular programme, you'll need to make an application directly to the partner institution. The online system used for managing applications will differ between organisations, so you'll need to follow the instructions they provide.

Please be aware that:

  • applications for partner summer schools are usually made directly to the institution you have selected
  • applications for Internships to the ICSC are detailed on our dedicated webpage
  • applications for our partner providers are made directly to the chosen organisation – the application process is often open year-round, but always check individual closing dates and application processes on the organisational websites
  • closing dates vary and some partners will require us to nominate you first, so make sure you factor this into your schedule
  • all of the opportunities listed above are supported by our GO Global Scholarship - so don't forget to check if you're eligible

2. Once you have your place confirmed by the partner organisation, you will need to register your participation on the programme with Newcastle University.

This process is managed by Terra Dotta, the university’s placement management system. Registering your opportunity means you will be covered under the University insurance policy and your participation will appear on your Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR).

You can view the Terra Dotta Application Instructions if you need some support.
