Celebrate National Poetry Day! Poetry Book Society & NCLA: Jacqueline Saphra and Kostya Tsolakis reading and in conversation with Tara Bergin

Date/Time: 5 October 2023, 7pm to 8pm

Venue: Culture Lab, Newcastle University

Join us at the NCLA & PBS Autumn and Winter Showcase, when we will hear from Autumn Choice poet Jacqueline Saphra and Winter Choice poet Kostya Tsolakis reading from their latest collections and in discussion with Tara Bergin. The event will be introduced by PBS Manager, Alice Mullen.

Jacqueline Saphra is a T.S. Eliot Prize nominated, award-winning poet, a playwright, editor, agitator, teacher and organiser. She is the author of ten stage plays, four chapbooks and five collections. PBS Autumn Choice, Velvel’s Violin is her deeply moving and political fifth collection. Through its search for missing histories of the Jewish diaspora, the book is a call for empathy and a warning to a world where the legacy of the Holocaust echoes current narratives of prejudice, war, displacement and migration to speak of love, absence and survival.

A Warwick Writing Programme graduate, he is founding editor of harana poetry, the online magazine for poets writing in English as a second or parallel language. His debut poetry pamphlet, Ephebos, was published by ignitionpress in 2020. His poems have appeared in fourteen poemsMagma Poetry, Poetry London, The Poetry Review and Under the Radar, and anthologies including 100 Queer Poems (Vintage, 2022).
