Meet Connie
Music BMus, Class of 2018
Describe your current role
I help artists and their teams tell their stories and translate their music online. Whether this is on social media, mailing lists, fan communities websites and beyond.
My role involves a lot of strategy, data analysis, understanding of current and upcoming trends, as well as experience in all of these areas to help artists and our label team navigate the online landscape.
What did you enjoy the most about studying at Newcastle?
There was a lot of freedom in what you could specialise in at Newcastle and there was an extremely wide range of modules in every aspect of Music you could think of.
I especially benefited from the Music in Enterprise module where we heard from people who had made a career out of music in all areas of the industry. In the same module we had to run a music event and market it ourselves which I absolutely loved. Both of these aspects of the course helped me to hone in on what I was interested in in music and start to apply for internships in the right areas.

In what ways did your music degree at Newcastle prepare you for your current role?
Most of all, I felt extremely prepared for the hard work that would be required from me in the music industry as well as being able to apply my theoretical knowledge and a thirst for it in each role I’ve had.
I had applicable digital marketing skills and a wider understanding of the modern music landscape.
Having the opportunity to meet people in the music industry in Newcastle also meant that I had the confidence to meet people in other cities in the UK and strive for the opportunities that I wanted.
