LGBTQ+ Community

Visit the Students’ Union’s LGBTQ+ Community page to find out about:

  • LGBTQ+ safe spaces
  • Gender-neutral toilets
  • Support services

You might be interested in the LGBTQ+ Society. This student-led society provides a safe space for LGBTQ+ students to meet and hang out.

Transition support is also available. Apply for up to £50 towards new purchases of items such as binders, clothes, makeup and other items that will make trans, non-binary students and gender questioning students' lives easier. 

LGBTQ+ Community in Newcastle

With a relatively large LGBTQ+ community, Newcastle has a huge range of activities for members of the LGBTQ+ community, including but not limited to: 

  • Northern Pride, a weekend-long, free pride event that attracts over 70,000 people. 
  • Curious Arts, a Newcastle-based charity that promotes LGBQT+ creatives. 
  • The ‘Pink Triangle’, a selection of LGBQT+ nightlife venues near the Centre for Life.

Explore the Behind the Lens project, showcasing the queer spaces identified and created by the students and staff of Newcastle University.

Discover useful information and resources on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer themes through the LGBTQA+ Equality pages of the Library’s EDI Guide. Explore a variety of materials, including books, films, archives and social media, examining LGBTQ+ themes from multiple perspectives such as history, society, politics, culture and literature.
