DemaNDs Seminar 11th May 2026
DemaNDs Seminar - 11th May 2026
Dr Chris Morris, Dr Lina Patterson, Dr Kirsty Olsen and Dr Paul Donaghy (Newcastle University) will jointly present on ‘Clinical and biomarker profile of amygdala predominant Lewy body pathology’ (abstract below).
Abstract: Amygdala predominant Lewy body pathology (APLBP) is common and may account for 20% of all cases of Lewy body pathology. In contrast to limbic and neocortical Lewy body (LB) disease, APLBP is not thought to cause clinical symptoms or cognitive impairment. Despite this, APLBP may cause positive results on alpha-synuclein seed amplification assays (SAA).
We will present findings on the clinical symptoms and rate of cognitive decline associated with APLBP, and the rate of positive SAA in APLBP compared with dementia with Lewy bodies, Alzheimer’s disease and control cases.
Refreshments will be available in Scafell room (1.05, 1st Floor, Biomedical Research Building, CAV) from 12.00 and the seminar will commence at 12.30pm in the Great Gable meeting room (1.01). Microsoft Teams details are below, though we encourage everyone who can to join in person.
