On 12th Feb 2009, 200 years after Charles Darwin was born, about 80 staff and students headed down to the Cochrane Bar in the Union for Darwin’s 200th Birthday Quiz.. The quiz was hosted by Charles Darwin himself (aka the unforgettable Richard Bevan), who was keen to celebrate his birthday with a pint or two of ‘Evolution’ beer (pictured). The quiz was a real ‘survival of the fittest’ for the 13 teams who took part. In true Darwinian style, the contestants were forced to ‘adapt’ their quiz techniques and ‘evolve’ to a higher level of intellect to be able to answer a range of academic, musical and picture questions relating to Charles Darwin’s life and work. The quiz was a lot of fun, and made for an unforgettable night! After a long battle, Team Bucket and Spade succeeded in winning the first prize including were books on evolution, Darwin bags and drink vouchers. Congratulations to them and happy birthday, Darwin!
Thanks must go to Karolina Sylvestre for organising the event, Richard Bevan for being Darwin, Sara Frost and Gesa Feenders for tei help on the night, and other CBE members for helping out with the questions! If you have any other photos of the Quiz night, please email them to cbe@ncl.ac.uk.
