Scopus Young Researcher Award for 2011

Lucy Asher, a former CBE student was recently invited to receive a 2011 UK Scopus Young Researcher Award. Awards were presented at a ceremony held at the Royal Society in London.

Lucy, and her fellow Young researchers were assessed by a jury of 40 comprised of former Fulbright Scholars, academic journal editors and other subject-specific experts. Michael Arthur, Vice Chancellor of the University of Leeds, Chair of the Russell Group and Chair of the jury, co-presented the awards with Ron Mobed, Elsevier's CEO Science & Technology. During the ceremony Michael Arthur said, "a part of the UK's strength in research is the ability of universities to attract and train excellent researchers...the level of excellence of the researchers we honour here tonight is a reconfirmation of the UK's continued excellence in global research."

Lucy did her PhD in the Centre  for Behaviour and Evolution graduating in 2008 and has recently taken up a lectureship at Nottingham following  a post-doc at the Royal Veterinary College. Half of the 14 publications contributing to Lucy’s award are based on her research conducted with at Newcastle.
