Welcome to CURDS

Welcome to the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS), an internationally recognised centre for inter-disciplinary academic expertise in the field of local and regional development studies and part of the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology (GPS).

CURDS' aim over the past 30 years has been to produce academically rigorous, policy relevant work on local and regional development. Its excellence is reflected in its outstanding record of publication in the best journals and its ability to continue to attract research council and other income. Its relevance lies in the fact that policy-makers, civic organisations and the media continue to turn to it for impartial and authoritative research and advice in our field.

CURDS researchers participate in two national research centres: the Spatial Economics Research Centre (SERC) funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, the Department for Communities and Local Government, and the Welsh Assembly Government; and the Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies funded by the Economic and Social Research Council; the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the Scottish Funding Council.
