BA, M.A., D.Phil.(Oxon), Cert.Ed.
Nineteenth and twentieth-century literature, in particular the intersection of religion and literature and the adaptation of novels to screen. Special interest in George Eliot, Robert Browning, John Henry Newman, Thomas Hardy, D.H.Lawrence and T.S.Eliot.
My fictional memoir of the Brownings, entitled The Browning Papers, is coming out with Olympia Publishers in April 2012. I am currently working on a novel provisionally entitled Risking Faith which places the development of the leading characters against the background of more public religious events of the last fifty years.
I have served on the Peer Review College of the AHRC and currently sit on two Advisory Editorial Boards: for Literature and Theology and for George Eliot-George Henry Lewes Studies. I was elected a fellow of the English Association in 2000.
