Communicating Europe

We seek a holistic, cross-disciplinary understanding of the impact of European Union communications.

Communicating Europe is a research network funded by UACES, the European Studies Association.

Cross-disciplinary research

It brings together academics in the field of law, politics, communications and sociology.

Investigating communication of EU policy and action

They explore the role of communication in the assessment of the EU’s actions and policies. They look at how tone, content and source affect public perceptions of the legitimacy of the EU.

Our focus

We focus on:

  • the language used by European institutions, such as the Commission, in justifying its actions
  • the role of national politicians and traditional media in reporting about the EU
  • the rise of online disinformation spread by populist actors
