Just City Workshop
Newcastle - Helsinki Partnership
Centre for Researching Cities held a two-day workshop (15-16 May 2023) to strengthen its partnership with the Urban Academy (a collaboration of the cities and universities in Helsinki). Participants from the Institute of Urban and Regional Studies (University of Helsinki) Living+ network (Aalto University) and the City of Helsinki joined colleagues from Newcastle University to develop future research agenda on the theme of Just City. This was the first of a series of workshops supported by Newcastle University’s Global Partnership Building Fund.
The workshop participants co-produced a number of research questions for each of the four sub-themes of the workshop:

Cities and environmental (in)justices

Cities and social (in)justices

Financialization and de-regulation of urban growth

Urban governance and (un)equal participation
They also worked on the development of a collaborative student project for the 2023-2024 academic year.
