Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) allows high resolution imaging of surfaces.
Our lab houses a Tescan Vega 3LMU scanning electron microscope fitted with a Bruker XFlash® 6 | 30 detector for EDS analysis.
Typical applications include:
- plant and animal tissue
- materials
- dental research
- bacteria
- freeze-fracture
- biofilms
- MEMS
- quality control
SEM is offered as a service with staff providing full support in specimen preparation.
Most researchers will be trained and encouraged to use the SEM themselves to collect images.
In addition to our standard Tungsten filament SEM, we offer limited availability on our Field Gun Emission (FEG) SEM which usually houses our Serial Block Face system. FEGSEM gives higher resolution imaging. Please contact us if you would like to be kept updated when slots become available.
