Background experience

I am a clinical psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology in the School of Psychology. I currently work clinically in the Psychological Therapies Training and Research Clinic Newcastle University and have worked across a number of clinical settings in University clinics and the NHS. I have extensive experience using CBT when working with individuals experiencing a variety of mental health difficulties and also in providing clinical supervision to training clinicians. Since 2009 I have delivered teaching and training relating to clinical psychology and evidence-based psychological assessment and interventions across a variety of settings in the UK and in Australia.

Specific interests

  • I conduct research into anxiety disorders, adult attachment (our beliefs and expectations about relationships and how we seek support) and the processes which contribute to the maintenance of psychological distress
  • I am particularly interested in the factors which contribute to the experience of anxiety and how the behaviours we use in our interactions with others (e.g., the way we seek support or reassurance) can be helpful or unhelpful to us
