Clinic Coordinator.

Clinic Role

I oversee the day to day operations of the Psychological Therapies Training & Research Clinic. This includes monitoring referral coordination, advising on risk management and safeguarding, managing the interface between internal and external agencies, as well as managing staff wellbeing and monitoring recovery of our clients. I also provide case management support, as well as clinical supervision for trainee CBT therapists and psychologists.

Background experience

I have worked in the mental health field since 1998 and I initially qualified as a registered mental health nurse (RMN) and worked both in a ward setting for the NHS in St George’s Park Hospital in Northumberland and then in the local community for several years, where my interest in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) first developed.

I returned to Newcastle University to study high intensity psychological therapies (PGDip) as part of the drive to improve access to psychological therapies (IAPT) and have been working as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist since.

I have worked both in primary and secondary care settings to promote positive mental health using a CBT approach for many years. I am as passionate about guiding people towards recovery as I have ever been and will endeavour to cultivate and nurture my professional development regime to ensure the best possible outcome for my clients.

I have lectured on graduate and post graduate courses and I am fully qualified to supervise trainee and trained therapists. I am accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I run my own private practice, as well as a mental health training company in North Tyneside.

Specific interests

I have a special interest in trauma, partially because I have struggled with this condition myself. I’m currently working towards expanding my knowledge and skills in this field via specialist teaching and continued professional development.
