Support for Music students
Music at Newcastle is a close-knit and collaborative community of inspiring staff and students.
We're committed to supporting every student's journey and understand that the support you need doesn't end with learning.
The University regularly offers funding and scholarship opportunities to help you focus on your studies.
Opportunities to boost your artistic growth are available through dedicated performance tutorship and performance opportunities, while we also offer career support and experience as part of our degree programmes.
We're also proud to have a culture of inclusivity, ensuring a welcoming and respectful environment for every student.
Our Music community
Our Music students and staff work together to create a supportive and inspirational community.
Our Student-Staff Committee, recognised with a University award for its work, meets regularly and is at the heart of this.
You can also join the student-run Music Society. The Music Society strengthens the community spirit among our students and has its own:
- orchestras
- bands
- choirs
- social events
and its staff work with students in New Vocal Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Band, and the Jazz Orchestra.
Our community extends into the city. Here staff and students promote events in the grassroots "Star and Shadow" and other venues.
Choral scholarships at Newcastle Cathedral and St Andrew's Church, as well as folk sessions at The Cumberland Arms further strengthen our connections in the city.
Undergraduate funding and scholarships
Undergraduate scholarships and bursaries are often available to UK, EU, and international students. These are University-wide and subject to eligibility.
You can find out more about the funding and scholarships that are available to you on the University's Scholarship and Bursaries website.

Careers support
As well as academic excellence, we cultivate the highest professional and intellectual skills, preparing our graduates to succeed in whichever careers they choose.
With professional development in mind, we typically offer modules in music enterprise and education in school and community contexts as well as placement modules in arts administration and education.
Our students also have the support of our excellent careers service.
Performance tutors
If you take a performance module for credit as part of any music degree in your first instrument or voice, you will have your lessons paid for by the music department.
We have tutors in a range of other instruments and styles. If you can't find what you are looking for here, this does not mean that we do not teach it.
