Collect your Smartcard

Your Newcastle University smartcard is an essential part of student life.

What is a smartcard?

Your smartcard is a physical card that includes:

  • your photograph
  • your name, unique student number and library number
  • confirmation of your student registration and identity

You will scan your smartcard to register attendance, access some buildings and check out library books.

How to collect your smartcard

Once you have completed your online registration via the Student Portal, a tile titled Final Registration will appear on your dashboard. In this tile, there are two steps listed:

  • Click on Step 1 - Smartcard Upload Your Photo and follow the instructions to upload your photo.
  • When you arrive on campus, visit one of the smartcard issuing locations (see dates and locations below). Show your smartcard collection barcode which you can access via the Final Registration tile on the Student Portal. Then, click on Step 2 -  Smartcard Collection to complete the process.

From Tuesday 9 September to Friday 19 September (including Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September):

Live locally or arriving early?

  • Tuesday 2 September to Monday 7 September (excluding Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September)
