Starting your Studies

Find out more about starting your studies at Newcastle University.

Start of term

The 2026-27 academic year starts on Monday 21 September 2026.

All students must aim to arrive on campus in Newcastle by this date for the start of Semester 1.

You will have classes to attend from this date, including in-person induction sessions with your school.

Some programmes may have an earlier start date. If this applies to you, your academic school will write to you to confirm this.

Late arrivals

It is important that you arrive on time to ensure you don’t miss any important induction or teaching and assessment activities.

However, if you are going to be late due to delays caused by issues such as immigration or travel delays, arrival up until Monday 12 October 2026 may be possible, depending on your degree programme and subject to approval.

To seek approval for a late arrival, you can submit this form or contact: latestartrequest@newcastle.ac.uk.

You can still complete your registration if necessary after you arrive, but you must be able to attend classes from the latest arrival date approved by the University.

Timetable

Your timetable will show you the date, time and location of classes taking place on campus. Find out how to access your personal teaching timetable.

We recommend checking your timetable daily for the first few weeks as it can be subject to change.

Meet your Academic Adviser

All undergraduate and postgraduate taught students are assigned an Academic Adviser.

Your Academic Adviser is here to help you:

  • Stay on track with your studies
  • Develop your academic skills and confidence
  • Plan for your future goals
  • Access the right support when you need it

All new students are expected to meet their Academic Adviser at least twice during Semester 1. Your first meeting will usually take place during induction, so watch for communications from your School to ensure you don’t miss this important session.

Support with your studies

The Academic Skills Kit (ASK) has many resources available to support you with your studies in the first few weeks and beyond including:
