This lecture will consider the shifting connections between landlords and tenants, as well as between rural businesses and the communities they serve. From changes in land ownership and tenancy models to the growing influence of environmental and economic pressures, these evolving relationships are reshaping the social and economic fabric of the countryside. The lecture will consider not only the impact within Scotland but also in the North of England.

Biography: Sarah-Jane Laing, Chief Executive, Scottish Land & Estates

Sarah-Jane Laing was appointed Chief Executive in December 2019, 15 years after joining SLE as Housing Strategy Officer. She represents SLE on a large number of external stakeholder groups and is a regular speaker at conferences and events. She was a member of the Scottish Government’s Women in Agriculture Taskforce and sits on the cross sectoral Climate Change Emergency Response Group. She lives on the family farm in the Borders.
