New in 2016, this striking landmark building offers 431 en-suite rooms in flats of five to seven. Each flat includes a contemporary kitchen/lounge. All rooms include a four foot or double bed.
With a state-of-the-art common room, games and cinema room, it’s a fantastic social space for making friends. There’s even a gym, to keep you fit, and regular social events will make you feel part of the Verde student community.
Building work will be ongoing throughout the academic year on a site adjacent to Verde, which may cause disturbance to residents.
Access and safety
Accommodation is spread over 11 floors with two lifts per block, entry-phone system and CCTV. The management team is available 24/7 to ensure high standards of security and maintenance.
Verde is conveniently situated just a 10-minute walk from the main campus and the city centre. It's also next door to Newcastle University Business School.

Public transport informationPublic transport information
St James' Metro station is a short walk away.
There are Metro trains every 10 minutes to and from this station, with trains linking to Newcastle International Airport and Newcastle Central Station.
Verde is within five minutes’ walk of the city centre where there are buses, Metros and trains to all locations.

Calls to this number will cost 10 pence a minute from a landline and considerably more from a mobile.
From Newcastle Central Station you can take the Metro to St James Station.
Taxis are also available from the Central Station.
Newcastle International Airport is about seven miles northwest of Newcastle University.
A taxi from the airport will take about 15 minutes, costing approximately £15 to £20.
You can also travel by Metro (rapid transport system) to St James Station which will take approximately 20 to 25 minutes costing £3.30.

Verde is one of our Managed Partnership residences, owned by Downing Students. The length and terms of contract differ to that of the University.
The contract is a fixed-term period of 42 weeks (commencing on either 21, 22 or 23 September 2017) covering the academic year and an additional few weeks. EU and International students will be given a contract for 43 weeks (commencing on 16 September) to allow you to attend the International Welcome Programme.
Rents are charged per week, so if your contract differs to the standard dates above (ie earlier arrival), you will incur additional accommodation charges.
All utility bills are included, WiFi is free and they also provide personal possessions insurance via Endsleigh Insurance.

You'll have to pay a deposit and the first rent instalment before you arrive at University.
For EU and international students, the remaining instalments are due in October and December. If you pay the full year in advance of your arrival, you will receive a 1.5% discount.
Our accommodation is accessible to all and we support students who have particular needs or disabilities.
We have one flat, containing one fully DDA compliant en-suite study-bedroom with a pull-cord alarm. The en-suite is equipped with a pull-cord alarm, hinged support and grab rails.
The communal kitchen is equipped with adjustable height worktops, sink and four ring hob with front-facing controls, mobile cupboard unit and fire alarm strobe warning light system.
In addition we have a number of en-suite accessible study-bedrooms that can be adapted to suit a wide range of personal requirements. We recommend you liaise with the Accommodation Service initially, who will work with Verde to ensure the accommodation can meet your needs.
All pull-cord alarms are connected directly to the 24-hour reception.
