Shaping Competition in the Digital Age

A collaborative project between Professor Oles Andriychuk, Newcastle Law School, and Professor Rupprecht Podszun, Heinrich-Heine-Universität, jointly funded by AHRC and the German Research Foundation

A three-year impactful research project funded jointly by AHRC and German Research Foundation "Shaping Competition in the Digital Age (SCiDA) – Principles, tools and institutions of digital regulation in the UK, Germany and the EU" has officially started in February 2024. For the UK part, the project is led by Newcastle Law School’s Professor Oles Andriychuk, working closely with Professor Rupprecht Podszun, Heinrich-Heine University, Germany. The purpose of the project is to document and intellectually inform the ongoing regulatory reforms of competition in digital markets taking place in the UK, EU and Germany. These three jurisdictions are regarded as global trendsetters in the foundational change of the public approaches to the role of large online platforms (BigTech) in digital markets. All three jurisdictions have adopted new laws aiming to recalibrate the entrenched status of the largest online platforms opening markets for horizontal and vertical competition to the benefits of our economies and smaller market players. There will be numerous opportunities for engagement with public authorities, regulators, legislators, policymakers and stakeholders. For those interested in learning more or contributing to this project please contact the AHRC funded project Principal Investigator Prof. Oles Andriychuk.
