Comparative Neuroimaging of Auditory and Cross-sensory Perception

MR Centre Project from theComparative Neuropsychology Group

Description: This project is part of a comparative neuroimaging effort involving the MR Centre and the Institute of Neuroscience. Our overall aim is reveal the evolutionary precursors to the human brain regions that support the perception of communication. Our hypothesis is that although the brain regions supporting speech and language comprehension are in certain ways unique to humans, these regions evolved from neural substrates that support auditory and cross-sensory perception. This project will use MRI to study the function, structure and connectivity of the brains of normal adults. Our effort aims to reveal the non-unique aspects of the human brain to better understand communication abilities at the neuronal level.
