Highly accelerated quantitative MRI of skeletal and cardiac muscle

In MRI research studies the cost per volunteer (dictated principally by scan duration) is a limiting factor. A balance must be achieved between the physiological parameters that could be measured, the demands made of the patient, and the cost of the scan session. This project develops scan acceleration techniques to enhance protocols of proven utility in clinical research studies, increasing the efficiency of study scan sessions. This project will leverage compressed sensing to deliver two enhanced clinical applications: (1) to provide accelerated skeletal and cardiac muscle (2) to provide accelerated liver and pancreas fat content assessment in type 2 diabetes.
