The dynamics of postprandial lipid and carbohydrate interaction in liver and muscle of normal and diabetic subjects

This work investigates the interactions of triglyceride and glucose in liver and muscle during the process of disposition of ingested substrate. The basal and insulin stimulated rates of turnover of mitochondrial ATP are being investigated using sequential 31P and 13C MR spectroscopy to determine the causal relationships with low ATP turnover during insulin infusion. The studies investigate metabolism in normal, impaired glucose tolerant, and Type 2 diabetic subjects.
