Golds for 2 Newcastle Rowing Alumni at European Rowing Championships

The European Rowing Championships (9-11 April 2021) held in Varese, Italy saw three Newcastle Alumni racing for the British Rowing Team. Tom Ford NUBC 2012-2015 and men’s captain 2014 and James Rudkin, NUBC 2013-2015 and men’s captain 2015 were part of the men’s eight, whilst Tom’s sister Emily (NUBC 2013-2015 and 2015 women’s captain) was in the women’s eight.
In the first International regatta since the start of the pandemic the British Rowing Team topped the medal table. The men’s eight produced a fantastic race, rowing through the reigning World Champions, Germany, in the last 500m to take gold with Tom at stroke and James in the No 2 seat. The women’s eight challenged strongly throughout their race but just missed out on a medal in fourth place.
