22 January 2020

Newcastle University student Femi Sofolarin was part of the Scotland senior team at the World Rugby Sevens Series.

USA-born Femi, 19, who has a Scottish grandfather, is gearing up for his third cap at the tournament in New Zealand and Australia.

The winger said: “As a young player, I’m just trying to gain experience at this level and keep improving. With rugby sevens being an Olympic sport and Tokyo 2020 coming up, I’m looking to help the Great Britain squad.”

Newcastle University student Femi Sofolarin has been named as part of the Scotland Senior team at the World Rugby Sevens Series event.

Taking place on 25-26 January, the event will see Scotland take on USA, Wales and hosts New Zealand. The fixtures for the event in Sydney on 1-2 February are yet to be announced.

Femi is the latest player in a long line of Newcastle University students who have represented England Students, England U20s and their countries. He's played for Newcastle Falcons at all levels.

The club has a proud history of players that have gone on to represent their countries. This is at full international level and the ultimate team - the British & Irish Lions.
