Women’s Giving Circle
The Women's Giving Circle is a network of alumnae, supporters and friends working together to improve opportunities for our students, our researchers and our communities.
Since 2010, the Women’s Giving Circle has supported the next generation of female leaders at Newcastle University.
The Women’s Giving Circle is powered by ambitious, future-focused women who share a passion for creating inclusivity and a positive change in society. Members support the University with philanthropic donations as well as offering their time and expertise to help our student community.
The Women’s Giving Circle is open to all and there is no minimum commitment. The Women’s Giving Circle is co-chaired by alumna Dame Teresa Graham DBE and Professor Anya Hurlbert. Dame Teresa Graham has worked in business for over 40 years, from professional practice to Non-Executive Director. Professor Anya Hurlbert is Professor of Visual Neuroscience at Newcastle University as well as Dean of Advancement, where she works with alumni and philanthropists.

It has been incredibly inspiring to see action taken for a great cause and I’d love to see more of our female graduates join us. The aim of helping the next generation of female leaders deserves your voice.
The Women’s Giving Circle Scholarship Fund
In 2022, members of the Women’s Giving Circle established a new scholarship fund to provide financial assistance to female undergraduates.
Women remain underrepresented in certain subject areas, and the Women’s Giving Circle Scholarship plays a vital role in breaking barriers and inspiring young women who aspire to pursue careers in these fields.
Thanks to our generous supporters, we have been able to award 8 scholarships since the launch of the programme in 2022. Natasha, a second-year Marine Biology student, was among the first recipients of the Women’s Giving Circle Scholarship.
"After meeting with members of the Women's Giving Circle, I left feeling truly inspired, knowing that barriers to a STEM career shouldn’t hold me back and that I’m not alone in this journey. Many on my course come from more affluent backgrounds, and at times, I feel I have to work harder to keep up. But this scholarship has shown me I have a network of support and people I can turn to for advice. Thank you for this incredible opportunity to succeed in a field I’ve always been passionate about."

When donations are pooled together, the impact can be huge. That's why contributions at all levels are welcome and gratefully received. If you would like to discuss how you can support our scholarship programmes, please get in touch.
Shaping a more inclusive future
“The Women’s Giving Circle is a testament to what happens when passionate, purposeful women come together. Every conversation, every contribution, and every connection helps shape a more inclusive future. I’m proud to co-chair a network that uplifts the next generation of female leaders and I warmly invite more alumnae to join us in this important work.”
Dame Teresa Graham, DBE
